COVID-19 created one of the worst health crises the world has ever witnessed. While returning to “normal” life may be tempting, many of us will live to see another dangerous outbreak with the constant threat of evolving viruses. There is a need for us to prepare for the next one.

Selected for funding by Canada’s Department of National Defence, we proposed a proactive approach to using deep learning techniques, including natural language processing to analyze the patient conversation and identification of syndrome anomalies and outbreaks.

With GoodLabs’ mission to do great things, amazing things, we assembled a team comprised of professors, postdocs, PhD candidates, clinical epidemiologists, medical students, and software engineers with a sole focus on tackling the most difficult problem we have encountered together. Our goal is not only to deploy a real-time global syndrome anomaly surveillance system and prepare for the impact of the next possible pandemic but also to explore the possibility of developing a mobile personal healthcare companion with conversational A.I. to deliver healthcare to where it is most needed.
